Definition of Domestic Violence: Any abusive, violent, coercive, forceful, or threatening act or word inflicted by one member of a family or household on another can constitute domestic violence.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office Victim Advocate Law Enforcement (VALE) program was developed in response to a need for crisis intervention, immediate services support and to assist with the judicial process for victims, witnesses and survivors of a violent crime. The intervention helps to reduce barriers while offering comprehensive, client-centered assistance to individuals and families affected by violence and abuse. Our goal is to respond compassionately to all victims of crime, treating them with fairness and respect.

The District Attorney's Office offers Victim-Witness Services which

  • Informs and assists victims of crime during the court process;
  • Provides court accompaniment, support and information during the court process;
  • Identifies needs of victims and witnesses and provides referrals to community resources;
  • Assists with applications for Victims of Crime, Volunteer Attorneys and other services.
